Loving Your Pet Through Death…

My cat has lost weight recently and has not been eating.

We took her to the vet.

Diagnosis: kidney (or renal) failure.

Prognosis: not good.

There are things we can do to make her comfortable: give her fluids, change her diet, maintain low-stress environment.

But, ultimately, she’s dying. She could have months. Or a year.

Yet, somehow, I’m grateful.

Grateful that I know so we can not take her for granted. Grateful I can love her more. Grateful for the years she has given us.

This doesn’t mean it’s easy. It’s never easy to watch a pet die. I’ve held two of my dogs in my arms when they were dying. And I knew a little ahead of time it was coming.

The worst part is the helplessness of it all. Not being able to help. To make her better. To do anything. Except hold her and love her and cherish her.

While she’s here, we’ll make the most of it.

Love her till death and beyond.

We love you, dearest Emerald.

Thank you to all the men and women both past and present who have served our country and to those who have sacrificed their lives so that I can sit here today and type these words to you.

Let’s strive every day to not take our freedoms for granted, to remember those who have chosen a profession to keep us safe, and to thank veterans who gave a portion of their lives in service and who continue to do so.

THANK YOU, SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN!!!

Ever Just Feel the Need at the End of a Long Day to Sit and Write?

I’ve been running around, gone all day, and all I want to do is sit and write.

It’s my release.  My vegetation.  My relaxation time.  My “TV” since I don’t watch TV.

Anyone else relate?Image result for fire and coffee and writing and book

I type.  I breathe.  In.  Out.  I feel my muscles unclench.  My heart rate lower.  My life and brain come together.

I crave this alone time as much as I crave my morning CrossFit workouts.

It keeps me sane in the mist of insanity.

What do you do to relax and unwind?

Question of the Week…

What opportunity is before you to use your gifts to serve others?
